The Colorado QuitLine is a free, confidential telephone coaching service in English or Spanish for anyone calling from a Colorado area code. The service is designed to help people quit smoking cigarettes and using other tobacco products such as cigars and chewing tobacco. Even if your patients or clients are not ready to quit, QuitLine staff can help them identify next steps to take in preparation for quitting. QuitLine staff can also call if they simply want information about how to keep their children free from secondhand smoke.People who use the QuitLine can also receive a free supply of nicotine patches. To be eligible for the patches, people need to meet a few cautionary medical requirements and be at least 18. To learn more, check out the Helpful Downloads box.
To refer patients and clients who are ready to quit to the Colorado QuitLine, you can complete a Fax Referral Form or tell them to call 1 800 QUIT-NOW (1 800 784-8669) The QuitLine is open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. People who call when the QuitLine is closed can leave a message and receive a call back. The Colorado QuitLine is sponsored by the State Tobacco Education and Prevention Partnership (STEPP) at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The service is paid for with proceeds from Colorado's 2004 voter-approved tobacco tax.
