coquitline.org

As of July 1, 2007, www.coquitline.org, a customized web site through National Jewish Medical and Research Center (NJMRC) is available to address the tobacco dependency treatment needs of Colorado residents. This program is offered as an independent web-based tobacco cessation service or a combination of the web-based and telephonic QuitLine program. The web site offers a secure registration process for Colorado users and includes the following services:

Customized services: quitting tools based on participant’s demographic information, smoking behavior, stage of quitting process and quit goal date.

Social support: on-line forums and chat rooms including “Chat With An Expert” and “Quit Community.”

Personalized email support system: quit tips, personalized feedback, resource information and updates on new features of the site. Emails will be sent to remind the participants of appointments with their Quitting Coach if they are also enrolled in the Colorado QuitLine.

Pharmaceutical cessation options: nicotine replacement and non-nicotine medications.

Public domain information: resources available to individuals contemplating quitting or non-smokers who want information about reasons to quit, benefits of quitting, health effects of smoking and second-hand smoke, smoking calculator and success stories.

Links to other tobacco resources: These links include both information on local cessation programs, and other smoking cessation resources.

Educational Content for coquitline.org
Content for coquitline.org was developed based on “Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence” Clinical Practice Guidelines (Fiore, Bailey, Cohen, et al, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Service, 2000,) and is updated based on current scientific literature. The following assessments will be dependent on input from the participant:

• Tobacco History Assessment
• Smoking Patterns Assessment
• Commitment Assessment

Content on tobacco cessation is customized based on the age, demographics, gender, ethnicity, stage of readiness to quit, and addiction level. Recommended strategies will be developed from the participant’s responses on their tobacco assessment and a personalized quit plan will be sent to the participant. The content for the coquitline.org program follows the QuitLine Tobacco Cessation Guide that is used for all participants in the Colorado QuitLine telephonic program.
